Dr. Higgins is a vocabulary learning tool. I've started writing this tool back when I was doing my internship in Finland. The idea was to have a nice tool to teach me some finnish. Since finnish is impossible, I didn't actually learn it very well, but I did continue to improve this vocabulary tool over the years and now you can try it out for yourself.
How it works: When you start using it, you have to feed it a list of word-translation pairs. The program then quizzes you in random order. A special feature of the program is it specialized error-repeat algorithm, which basically forces you to learn the words you find difficult. When you start, all questions in the quiz are put in the first of four boxes. Whenever you answer a question correctly it is moved to the next box, and when all words are in box 4 the quiz ends. However, when you give a wrong answer, the word doesn't move to the next box unless you get it correct two times in a row. The mistaken question is repeated once every two or three questions until you get it right. Repetition is the key to learning, and this questioning algorithm basically guarantees that you can learn any set of words by doing the entire quiz two times.
